Dakota Southeastern Division’s Traveling Model Railroads

There are two sections of the division, HO and N scale. Each sections has it’s own traveling trailer. The T-Trak modular traveling section of the DSED is made up of many ‘N’ gauge sections that can be set up in many different configurations depending on the space available. Our trailer travels to many midwestern cities in several states each year for various events and train shows. These events are always well attended and especially enjoyed by the kids, while many times bringing back many memories for the older generation too. Submitted by Randy G Deutsch

Visit our Com-Ed Page here for for details and how to register! One of the projects the division does twice per year is to sponsor community education classes at the city’s Com-Ed program. Registered students receive a 12″ X 24″ T-Trak module for ‘N’ gauge size trains. All of the supplies needed to build their own module are supplied by the DSED division. They build their own module during the 4-week, one night per week course restricted only by their own imagination. This class is held twice per year. DSED at Trains at Christmas Nov 2023 – Sioux Falls, SD

The Dakota Southeastern Division, DSED, model railroad club participated in the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society, SVMES, model railroad club, annual Trains at Christmas train show in November 2023. Eric Carlson, a DSED member, hosts a YouTube channel, Black Hills and Eastern, recorded some of the layouts, displays and interviewed a number of guests at Trains at Christmas. Model Railroading 101 Workshop

The DSED is holding a workshop on building model railroad modules through the Sioux Falls, SD, school districts community education, ComEd, series of classes. The 2′ modules are for an N-scale model train layout, however, the lessons learned can be used in any scale or for other dioramas. The class is a 4-week session on Tuesday evenings beginning April 11, 2023. Three of the classes are hands on, where the participants will add track, wiring and scenery to a prebuilt module. Come and join the Dakota Southeastern Division, DSED, model railroad club, for our annual Greater Sioux Falls Model Train Show. Watch trains of various scales running on unique layouts. Kids can earn an ‘engineers’ certificate’ by operating on a switching layout. Vendors will be selling new and used model trains and accessories. Come and join the Dakota Southeastern Division, DSED, model railroad club at the Sioux Falls, SD downtown library on Saturday and Sunday, January 28-29, 2023. Saturday hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundary hours are 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The library is located at 8th Street and Dakota Ave. The DSED will have our HO and N scale layouts operating along with 2 switching layouts for kids to operate. Join the Dakota Southeastern Division, DSED, model railroad club, at the Active Generations North Pole Carnival this Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Be sure to join the Dakota Southeastern Division, DSED, model railroad club, at Trains at Christmas this Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20, at the Expo Building on the fairgrounds in Sioux Falls, SD. The DSED will have trains running on a large, 32’x28′ ‘P’ shaped HO scale layout and a 24’x15′ ‘L’ shaped N scale T-Trak layout.
