As of this time on January 15th, 2026, the GSFMTS spring train show in Sioux Falls is full and can no longer accept additional vendor tables or layouts. The DSED is holding a workshop on building model railroad modules through the Sioux Falls, SD, school districts community education, ComEd, series of classes. The 2′ modules are for an N-scale model train layout, however, the lessons learned can be used in any scale or for other dioramas. The class is a 4-week session on Tuesday evenings beginning April 11, 2023. Three of the classes are hands on, where the participants will add track, wiring and scenery to a prebuilt module. Come and join the Dakota Southeastern Division, DSED, model railroad club, for our annual Greater Sioux Falls Model Train Show. Watch trains of various scales running on unique layouts. Kids can earn an ‘engineers’ certificate’ by operating on a switching layout. Vendors will be selling new and used model trains and accessories. Concessions are available by the El Riad Shrine Ritualistic Unit. Lots of activities and a great family event. DSED Meeting – Jan 23, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Interested in model trains? Anyone is invited to learn more about the DSED – Dakota Southeastern Division. Meeting will be held at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society train building on the North end of the fairgrounds. Contact the DSED for additional information.

CANCELLED EVENTS MARCH/APRIL 2020 – TRAIN SHOW AND OPEN HOUSE With the news that came out today with all of the concerts, basketball tournaments, Sportsman Show, and many other cancellations, along with the Sioux Falls state of emergency announcement due to concerns with COVID 19, the DSED has made the decision to cancel the March 21-22 Great Sioux Falls Area Train Show and the April 4th Great Sioux Falls Model Railroad Tour. Over 50 vendor tables to buy from! The weather looks to be warm for the weekend. Please do not worry about Sioux River flooding affecting the show. The river is two blocks away and should not cause issues with the event location. Bring the kids, bring your friends, Come on out and enjoy the displays. Hope to see you there.
