The Dakota Southeastern Division (DSED) is a division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) and its Thousand Lakes Region (TLR). Any NMRA member that resides in the eastern portion of South Dakota or Lincoln, Pipestone and Rock counties in Minnesota is automatically a DSED member.
You do not have to own a model train layout (or even model trains) to belong to the DSED. The DSED has railroads in both N and HO-scale that we travel within the Greater Sioux Falls, SD area. Members can bring their own trains, or use other members trains (we share), to operate on any of the DSED displays at various events throughout the year. You only need an interest in model railroading. You are also welcome to join us for a few events before joining NMRA to check us out. Contact us for additional information.

One of the core activities of the TLR is its annual convention with industry tour, modeling contest, clinics, and more.
What do we do in the DSED:
Some of the activities we do:
- We have a large (up to 36′ x 36′) modular HO-scale railroad, an N-scale T-Trak modular railroad (L-shaped at 12′ x 12′) and both N and HO-scale switching railroads
- We go to train shows in the region
- We host the Greater Sioux Falls Model Train Show in Sioux Falls, SD around the end of March
- We visit libraries and other places in the area with our modular layouts
- We typically meet monthly, visit home model railroads, and from time to time have clinics
- We also offer camaraderie, helping each other out with our model challenges and more
