Membership/location

The Dakota Southeastern Division consists of members of the NMRA in the southeastern part of South Dakota. While attendees of our meetings are primarily from the Sioux Falls area, all NMRA members in southeastern South Dakota and beyond and some counties in extreme southwestern Minnesota are members of the Division and are welcome to come to any or all of the meetings (you may come if you are an NMRA member and do not sort under our Division, but would not be allowed to vote in division matters). There are no dues to belong to the Division, however, due to NMRA regulations all members of the Division must be NMRA members in good standing.

The DSED generally has a meeting every month, usually the first or second Saturday of the month, plus occasionally other special events. Meetings are held in members residences, the Ronning Library in Sioux Falls, and occasionally in other locations as determined by the activities scheduled.

  1. Thanks for posting our new site. I like it!

  2. Where was the photo with #14 and the Pan Am boxcar taken? Really looks good!

  3. Bill – Thanks!!!! This is on my Sioux Junction HO scale railroad. BN #14 is a kitbashed Kato and the Pan Am car, a souvenier of mine from a trip to Maine is, as you may know an out-of-the-box Athearn.

  4. Hello! I know Alan from his years in St. Paul over at the Arcwood and Rice Creek.

My wife and I just relocated to Huron, SD, and I’m eager to meet other modelers in the area, especially with an interest in operation.

Note by “in the area” I mean “within a three hour drive or so”. I used to routinely drive from Minneapolis to Lansing, IA to operate on Bill Kirchmeyer’s Chicago, Champaign, and Southern.

  5. Hello, Michael Mornard! I hope to see you during Trains at Christmas this year, held at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds on Nov. 17 and 18. Gary Freseman first thought you were coming here (SF area) but Huron isn’t that far. If you provide your email, I’ll be glad to provide the next issue of Prairie Ponderings.

  6. Woww, Really cool website! Who did it?? We are really moving upscale now.. Whoo Hoo! DM&E Hq

  7. Nice post Richard. Thanks for the compliment. People like you and other recent new members have infused lots of energy and life into the division these past couple years which makes it quite enjoyable. I trust the class I’m teaching in six weeks may bring us additional members interested in model railroading.
